Murchison wrote to Tom Landry before the Cowboys’ first Super Bowl, saying, “Texas Stadium has a hole in its roof so God can watch His favorite team play”
It starts here.
The Dallas Cowboys indeed began play in 1960 and initially played their home games at the Cotton Bowl, located a few miles east of Downtown Dallas. During their first three seasons, they shared the stadium with the Dallas Texans, who later became the Kansas City Chiefs franchise. The Dallas Texans started playing in the American Football League (AFL) in the same year as the Cowboys.
This shared arrangement at the Cotton Bowl between the Cowboys and the Texans was an interesting chapter in the early history of both teams as they established themselves in the football landscape.
Meet the first owner of the cowboys
Clint Murchison Jr. was indeed the majority owner of the Dallas Cowboys when the team was founded in 1960. Murchison, who was an oilman, played a significant role in bringing the Cowboys to Dallas, Texas. He worked closely with his brother John Murchison in the process of establishing the team and shaping its early years.
